Asian cuisine is very popular here in the Philippines. You can find a number of restaurants sprouting everywhere in the metro – Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai. History can tell that Filipinos have long embraced oriental cuisine and have been accustomed to the complex taste of Asian flavors.
Metro Manila has become a culinary melting pot over the years. It is the region in the country that has become the most accepting of whatever taste the world brings us, as evidenced by so many international restaurant groups setting up their branches here in the Philippines. The Filipino’s love for food and adventure has made it easier for these companies and restaurants to thrive.
The ongoing community quarantine has made ordering food a struggle for most of us because our well-loved restaurants are still closed or operating on limited capacity and shortened hours only. So when one craves for a Chinese delicacy and a Thai dish for instance, finding restaurants that can cater to both your cravings would mean ordering from different restaurants and paying more on deliveries. The dilemma has to end. Luckily, we’ve found a restaurant that can bring the dishes that you’ve been longing for right to your doorstep.
X-Bistro Lab is an Asian fusion takeaway restaurant located in Binondo, Manila. Its initial menu offers a hefty selection of Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Asian fusion dishes. We’ve tried some of their bestsellers and we are happy to share our thoughts about our favorite items in the menu!
A hotpot is made for the rainy days. And we were thrilled upon learning that X-Bistro Lab is offering a challenging bowl of Sichuan Malatang (P395). This huge spicy hotpot bowl is an adventure for our palates. We savored on thin beef slices, premium balls, and vegetables – all soaked in a flavorful broth. The richness, aroma, and spiciness of the broth will warm you up in a cold day. So if you’re up for a challenge, ordering a bowl of Sichuan Malatang will fire up your appetite even more.
*Drum roll please* Signature dish X-Bistro Maki Roll (P385) is a gem. It’s beautiful. It’s delicious. The rolled crispy sushi rice offers an exciting texture complemented by the fresh tuna and avocado sitting on top. It’s full of umami! This light dish is the perfect combo for the flavorful Sichuan Malatang.
If you’re a fan of the famous pad thai, there’s no need to look for another Thai restaurant. X-Bistro has its version! Their Pad Thai Gong (P380) is as authentic as how we know our pad thai – stir-fried rice noodles mixed vegetables, topped with prawns and julienned omelette. You couldn’t call it an authentic pad thai without the tamarind’s fruity kick. Their tamarind sauce is the bomb and its acidity enhances the flavor profile of the dish.
Finally, we’ve tried their version of the Salted Egg Shrimps (P450). Our verdict? We love that the shrimps were sautéed in real salted egg yolks. After trying out almost every salted egg shrimp dish available in every restaurant, our decision boils down to the actual taste of the salted egg. We have mastered the art of discerning! We can separate the dish that uses the seasoning powder from the one using real yolks! X-Bistro’s version is buttery, eggy, creamy. The thinly sliced vegetable garnish where the prawns are sitting isn’t only beautiful, it’s delicious too. Yes, did eat everything!
